All existing coding system do not take into consideration temporal masking phenomenon. However one plays a vital part when decreasing bit-rate. It is to distinguish two kind of temporal masking: backward and forward masking (premasking and postmasking). Although many studies of backward masking have been published, the phenomenon is poorly understood besides the highly practiced subjects often show little or no backward masking. In this paper, the opportunity on a rising of the coding efficiency when taking into consideration forward masking is considered. The proposed new audio coding system is based on MPEG ISO/IEC 11172-3 Layer 3 codec. It makes use of forward masking phenomenon to rise the coding efficiency and requires 11% to 20% less bits than the conventional MPEG Layer 3.
