Acoustics Design of the Music Suite in Taipei National University of Arts

Document Thumbnail

This paper reported the design progress of the music suite in Taipei National University of Arts. The 7,000-m3 concert hall was designed for orchestra performances and the occupied reverberation time (RT) was set to 1.7 s. A diffused and high ceiling was used to prevent from over-powering. The stage was restricted to 155 m2 to provide good support and balance. Tests in 1/20 model yielded an early support (ST1) of iV13.1 dB at the solo location. The 1,450-m3 orchestra rehearsal room was designed to provide both adequate reverberation and strength of co-players. This was achieved by implementing concentrated diffusers on a splayed ceiling or an array of overhead diffusers above the floor.
