In this paper a reproduction of sound is proposed that uses a combination of loudspeaker and in-ear monitor. This hybrid sound reproduction integrates advantages of a loudspeaker sound reproduction with those of headphones. Especially for collaborative group situations using audio-augmented reality, this approach can help the users to have both: direct undisturbed interindividual communication within the team and at the same time a personalized augmented sound environment. Possible application scenarios for augmented reality are described and an example for a hybrid sound reproduction for the application of room acoustics is presented and discussed in detail. The measured impulse response of a room is separated in the time domain to form a dual channel filter. The resulting processed signals are sent to a public loudspeaker and a personal in-ear monitor system.
