The IEEE 1394 standard is a significant technical achievement for a number of reasons ; it requires complex hardware compliance; it covers almost all of today's data movement requirements from computer data, control data and AV data; it requires standards to be universally adopted and different industries to co-operate For the engineering teams responsible for delivering product, the standard requires both a deep and wide ranging knowledge of the subject. However, in modern day economics, 'time to market' is a critical component . The pressure is on for engineers to perform within tight timescales and often capped budgets . This paper will offer some insights into some development packages that are available.
