Why Are Rights Important?

Document Thumbnail

I am sure all of us have a pretty well formed view of why rights are important or at least why they are important to the creative side of the industry and we also probably have an idea ofhow the concerns of the creative communities impact upon our own commercial concerns . The broadness ofthe question gives me an opportunity to go through some of the diverse and contrary issues, not only from a general standpoint of all rights owners but also how as providers of technology based services, systems and solutions our role in all the entertainment industries will become increasingly important. For the lawyers amongst you, it will soon become clear that I have not been burdened with too much in the way of a formal legal training . Also, the scientists and engineers will soon detect a singular lack of technical knowledge and certainly no empirical data. Despite these shortcomings, I shall try to make a few lay observations about how the concept ofrights impacts upon the circumstances in which audio products are delivered.
