With the advent of new physical and soft media formats, compressed audio, and streaming audio via the Internet, the number of entertainment options available to consumers has risen dramatically. This paper examines the development of a complete audio system that gives consumers easy access and control of these changing formats. The development process, from initial investigation until final product launch covered more than 3 years and would be impossible to cover in detail within a short paper. As such, this paper is designed to provide a more general overview of the research process, system architecture definition and consumer benefits.
