A new dynamic element matching scheme for very high performance audio DACs has been developed. The elements have binary weighted values that allow increased resolution at the multi-bit sigma-delta output without requiring an excessive number of elements. This has allowed a low order multi-bit sigma-delta modulator to be used with the result of low out of band noise. A new evaluation test has been employed to compare the performance of this architecture with existing architectures.
