The Future of Media Interactivity and Choice

Document Thumbnail

With 2.5 and 3rd Generation Wireless on the horizon and the Internet set to create billions of dollars in e-commerce in the next few years, the opportunities for rich media on the net are boundless. Trends are emerging that will change the way audio is distributed to listeners. Specifically, we believe that audio on the Web will be affected by four key trends: the development of satellite radio and online radio, the collaboration of brick and mortar and online retail companies, a move away from file sharing as a means of distribution and a focus on wireless and personal hand-held devices for creative Web media experiences. Encoding systems should be created that can easily morph and deliver new codecs or audio enhancements on short notice in order to support these trends. We will examine the technical barriers and obstacles to achieving success within these different business models including codec integration, post-production, audio quality control, digital rights management and data integrity.
