IEEE 1394 has been hailed by industry groups as the preferred interconnect for a broad range of digital media devices, ranging from information appliances to personal computer peripherals. Protocols have been defined for carrying virtually every format of audio and video, as well as Internet Protocol, files, and various control protocols. This paper explores how IEEE 1394 can be applied to information appliances.
