An enhancement to sound field reconstruction is proposed which improves subjective spatial perception and widens the sweet spot size of a 5 channel surround system. Instead of radiating sound directly a in a standard setup, a switch separates the direct and reverberant (diffuse) components of each audio input. On playback with loudspeakers, the direct field is radiated normally while the reverberant part is raadiated diffusely with a speaker/diffsor combination.
