General Considerations on Audio Multi-Channel Recording

DVD Audio is already on the market, but the search for an optimal recording method continues. End users will accept the greater hardware cost of multi-channel audio only if the results are highly convincing. This essay deals with basic issues: compatibility, loudspeaker arrangements, differing goals of different recording methods and microphone arrangements. Finally, various "main microphone" types for surround recording are discussed briefly.
