The system evaluation measure is introduced to optimize loudspeaker arrangement for sound image localization, and directional auditory tests are carried out on twelve loudspeaker arrangements. The results show that three of the twelve arrangements yield excellent image localization. Furthermore, it is confirmed that there is a strong correlation between the new system evaluation measure and directional auditory test.
