The Attraction Of Optical Replay Of Mechanical Recordings

Document Thumbnail

The paper discusses the many approaches to optical replay of mechanical disc or cylinder records. There is a distinction beetween direct optical reading of the groove and the optical detection of the stylus movement. The former is advantageous, because it in no way interacts mechanically with the record material. The latter is advantageous where the groove has been interrupted, and where optical tracking may be difficult.
