The BBC, nine major broadcast archives, and seven technical partners are developing new technology for archive preservation, supported by the European Commission. The first step was a survey of media status and preservation requirements, and problems with existing preservation technology, management, and funding. The survey identified key link technologies for parts of the preservation process that are costly and time-consuming or prone to failure. This paper presents details of these key links now under development.
